About The Course
The Coastal Skipper course is an advanced sailing course
This course concentrates on: Advanced skippering techniques for yachtsmen and women. With considerable knowledge of sailing and navigation, wanting to undertake coastal passages by day and night. RYA Coastal skipper Practical Course is the follow on course from the RYA Day Skipper Practical Course.
Passage planning Preparation for sea Pilotage Passage making and ability as skipper Yacht handling under power Yacht handling under sail Adverse weather conditions Emergency situations
Like the RYA Day Skipper Practical course. This course consists of skippered passages in a variety of situations. Each trainee will skipper more challenging passages and learn more about passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling, safety and emergency situations.
Who Is This Course For?
During the course RYA Coastal Skippers should be able to undertake more difficult passages by day and night and handle the yacht in more demanding conditions Travelling upto 300nm taking long distance passages. By the end of the course you should have the knowledge, if not the experience, to become a Yachtmaster™. There's no getting away from it – passing involves some work, some practice and some dedication & previous sailing experience. (RYA Day Skipper & RYA Yachtmaster Theory)
What Type Of RYA Course is this?
This is very much a hands-on practcial RYA course. With little time to teach navigation or other theoretical subjects. It is therefore recommended that you take the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal/ Offshore Theory shorebased course (Info: Click Here) prior to your practical course so you can put those skills into practice on the water. You will be sleeping onboard visiting different ports and bays throughout the duration of the course.
Ability After The Course
Able to skipper a yacht on coastal passages by day and night.
